Spring can be one of the most challenging times of year for
runners. One day, it's 50 degrees and sunny. The next, six inches of
snow falls. Such is life in the Northeast and parts of the
Midwest. Other parts of the country have their own unique
obstacles with wind, rain and humid. This can make selecting running attire as difficult as college
calculus. However, one standing rule can serve as a key starting point:
Dress as if it's 20 degrees warmer than the actual air
temperature. This approach factors in the amount of heat your body will
generate on the run and ensures that you won't be overdressed.
If you feel like you'll be too cold starting out, dress in
layers that you can shed as you go.
