Message: When I register earlier for the Half Marthon, I stated that I wanted a Medium Shirt. When I pick My packet up on Sat mid-day.I was told only Large and X-Large shirts were left, because of the late registration. If I pay early, I feel as though I have First choice of the size shirt that I request.Solution: Shirts should be in the packet for the runners who register early,
Also, what about the results? If You cannot handle 3 races at once, do not promise results.

Message: I'll make certain that your concerns about the T-shirts are heard by officials with the race.
As for your question about the results: I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. I know that there were some initial delays with the results immediately after the race and that there are still some errors that I'm sure will be remedied in short order -- but these are relatively minor problems given the size and scope of having three races simultaneously. I know that some of the problems arose from runners entering one race, then switching to another race in the middle of the race (i.e. after the gun had already been fired). However, I received assurances from the marathon that they were going to sort through this and make the proper corrections.
I would personally have to say that for a first run, the three events came off relatively smoothly. Sure, some things didn't work perfectly (the runner tracking system is an example) but none of those things had anything to do with the primary concern of any event director: making sure that the runners are safe and enjoy the event.

Message: dee, first race? tou really shouldn't gripe about t-shirt sizes. I don't think I've ever received smaller than a large. the reward is the effort...by itself.

Message: I have to agree that if you sign up for a race and pay $40-50, the least they could do is get you the correct shirt size. Part of the fun of finishing a race is proudly wearing your shirt afterwards. It isn't any fun if the shirt is a size or two too big! Also, I'm upset with the results as well. Fortunately I looked to Runner Triathlete news for the results, but a lot of runners don't know about this website, especially new runners. If you try to get results from the race website, you can't. You can get your personal results, but there is no way to look at overal men's/women's results or age group results. Also, how did the awards ceremony go? How did they do the awards. For instance, I was fifth in my age group according to this website, but on the race website it says 12 in my "division." What does that mean? Who else am I competing against?

Message: Lance,
I find it curious that you have a complete set of overall and age group finishers for the marathon and half, but the Compaq Marathon site is still only giving them out one at a time, via that tedious search. Thanks very much for coming through with a set of results where I can see how I and others stacked up against the competition.

Message: The officials didn't give out the age group awards (three per 5-year group) Sunday. This was due to a significant number of runners pointing out mistakes in the scoring, of which yours would seem to be another. I hung around until 1:30 or so, when they said they would mail out the awards after they were satisfied they had all the protests checked out.

Message: The web site generally needs improving, although it is better than last years. The e-mail alerts never worked, none of the people (out of towners) I signed up ever got notified - they thought I gave up and never started!

Message: I think that it's important to point out that all results that we post on the day of the race -- especially for large events -- should be considered unofficial.
While the overwhelming majority of the results that we post require no updates or changes based on protests, these changes do occur from time to time. We always indicate when results have been updated on the web site, so you can go back and check for any changes that may affect your finish.
Another important note: remember just a few years ago when we were excited when we got the results in the mail a few weeks after the event? Now we get hot under the collar if results aren't posted to our favorite web site within hours of the race. Event directors (and the RTN web staff, for that matter) are under quite a bit of pressure to post results as promptly as possible. The less time you have to work on something, the more likely a mistake will slip through.
I would personally like to thank the hard-working volunteers with the Compaq Houston Marathon -- and the numerous other events that we work with here at RTN -- for their tireless efforts to make every participant's experience an enjoyable one.
