Message: Ok here is a big question!
I am female triathlete and have been for quite some time. I am an age grouper and want to move to the next level and become better. But I have this BIG fear of being even more tired, adding more time in my work-outs. Ya know by the end of the week I am thinking man I gotta run again UGH!!! I have a problem with long workout boredom. Any advice? I want to achieve more and attain some goals, but I have this fear factor. What is wrong with me!!!!

Message: Dear Trichic,
I am assuming that when you say you want to move to the next level, you mean contending for the overall win. If this is correct, you need to determine several things. What are you willing to give up to advance yourself? For example, time or better equipment. Do you have a weakness (ex. slow swimmer) or are you well balanced in all three events but just need to increase your speed? In over twelve years of racing I can tell you that there is no way to race fast unless you train fast. You have to be willing to suffer a few times a week to see any noticeable improvements. Important tip: you also have to be willing to rest (active recovery) in order to absorb and benefit from hard workouts. Rest is the most overlooked component of most training plans. You have several choices in regards to your training. You can continue training by trial and error and maybe stumble across the ideal program. You can hire a coach to guide you with written workouts and advice. You can also find a swim team to train with, bike racers to ride with, and runners to train with. When you are in the pool swimming, you are a swimmer. When you are on your bike, you are a cyclist, and when you are running, you are a runner. You are not a multisport athlete who is running, cycling, or swimming. Last piece of advice, stop worrying about being tired and start thinking about getting the most out of what you are already doing. It you get overloaded, you can always throw in an easy day to recover.

Message: WOW Finally a response
Thanks so much!!!!!
Yes I do want to contend for overall.
Ok I am pretty equal in all three.
I do swim, bike and run with a group.
I have a running coach and if the truth be known, I need to ride more. I teach cycling but I need to put in more total hours on the bike. I have a good bike, just bought it. I guess I just need to suck it up!!!
HUmmmm....
I am actully taking today off! Yes a rest day!! Thanks for your response
