Good Luck!! You will have a blast and be hooked for life!!
It is best if you find someone that has done one before so they can talk you through it especially for your transitions
Equipment(and I am just listing things for a beginner)
race belt, towel(I take a bath one and lay my stuff out on it in the transition area. If you have two cages on your bike, put water in one and your favorite replacement or mixture in the other. I wear padded speedo bottoms to swim and bike in and I just pull on some shorts to run in(not everyone does that). You gotta figure out what you are going to do with your hair. I have short hair so I put it back in a head band to run in. Remember you are going -from the pool with swim cap to a bike helmet then running. A lot of people put a running cap.
Hey good Luck!!! Hope I helped!!

Message: Hi Kelly,
I hope your training is going well. Here's a quick list of necessary items for your first event. Swim: Goggles that fit properly and that you have used several times prior to your event, a swimsuit that fits (not baggy or too tight). If you are not a strong swimmer, don't start at the front of your wave. Start to the side with a little space around you. Bike: Make sure that your bike fits you properly and has properly functioning brakes and shifters. You must have an approved helmet and I strongly recommend some sort of eye protection. Tires should be inflated to the recommended pressure. Make sure all nuts, bolts, screws are tight so that nothing comes loose or falls off. Make sure you are comfortable on the bike. Run: Good pair of running shoes that you have run in several times prior to your event. If you decide to run without socks (shoes only) either tape your toes or put a small amount of vaseline in your shoes to avoid blisters. You also need a shirt or race belt to attach your race number to. Transition: A brightly colored towel to lay out your shoes, helmet, etc on and also to help you find your transition spot. Extra swim goggles. Bag to put all your stuff in. Extra advice: Arrive at least an hour and a half early so you can familiarize yourself with the transition area and also claim a spot in the transition area (if they aren't assigned). Check out the swim course and walk yourself from the swim exit to your spot in the transition area and then out to the bike exit. Walk from the bike entrance to your spot in the transition area and then to the run start. The point of walking is to familiarize yourself with the transtion area and to establish some visual reference points. When the race starts for real, you don't have a lot of time to run around the transition area looking for your bike or running shoes. Make sure you drink during the bike and run. Most importantly enjoy the event.
