There are thousands (ok, millions) of people who absolutely swear by Nike (which is probably the most popular brand). There are also lots of people who hate Nikes. Same (both sides of the story) could be said about Asics, Adidas, New Balance, Reebok, Fila, and Saucony. Find a good running store with knowledgable employees. Generally they will carry brands that have proven "track records", (pardon the pun). There are lots of different models from each brand, so decide what you want/need, and don't be afraid to try different models and brands.
