Message: I hold track workouts on Sunday mornings at 6:00 AM to beat the heat at Lamar High School through July 20 and provide a free workout schedule for the rest of the week if you are interested. My favorite workout for the summer is 2-4 sets of 400, 300, 200, 100 with a rest that is equal to the interval between. 5 minutes rest between sets. Contact me through e-mail. I do it as a way to give back to the sport. I will be providing 5K to marathon training in the fall on Monday and Wednesdays starting the 1st of September. I am a certified coach through USATF, if that sort of thing is of any consequence.

Message: I don't really have a favorite workout per se, but I will say that since I don't really like sprinting as much as I do middle and long distance, when I do 100 repeats, I don't just stand at one end of the track and run 100m to the other end and then repeat the process. Instead, I "trick" myself into feeling like I'm doing a longer distance by jogging (slowly) the turns on the track and then running hard (sprinting) on the straightaways. I never feel as bored doing my sprinting this way as I do with the other way, and I think I get the same benefits. Actually, this way is similar to fartlek running, which teaches the runner to surge at any time in the middle of a race, without feeling drained afterward.

Message: Jose,
Sorry, I forget that this is read all over the state. It is Lamar High School in Houston. We are through for the summer though. I will start up in the fall though, Probably 6;30 PM August 21, at Memorial Park Track for anyone who wants to train every Wednesday night. Once again it will be free. This won't do you any good but maybe anyone in Houston who reads this can be there.
