Subject: Is this good time?... IP: Logged
Message: I am starting to train for 100 and 400 meter sprints. I have no experience or training. My past runs have always been longer than 3 miles up to a full marathon. I did a 8x400 run at the local track with an average pace of 1:20. After which I did a 300 meter sprint. My time for the first 100 of the 300 meters was 15 seconds and for the 300 it was around 43 seconds. I dont have track spikes, never used them before either, so I just used my old marathon shoes from two years ago. Is this a promising time? Do I have potential to compete?
Thanks!
Jose

Message: Jose, what do you mean "do I have the potential to compete"? Are you talking about 5K's 10K's or track distances (100M to 1600)? Are you talking about competing against ranked competition? I mean you are still very young, if you want to compete in running do it! If you ask me are you going to win a gold medal in the next Olympics, I would say probably not! Running is one of the indiviual sports that allows us to compete no matter how fast or slow we are. So pick a distance you want to train for and get busy, find out when and where the races are and sign up! Keep your times(just like you did when you ran long distances) and enjoy it!
