Message: I was quite disappointed to find out that this race has been moved from its normal spot (Saturday before Thanksgiving) to a SUNDAY! Not just any Sunday, but the same day as the 30K in Sugar Land! Are they trying to limit participation to under 500!!!
If someone could provide some logic into the scheduling of this event, I would certainly like to hear it. This has been one of my favorite races over the years, but I (and quite a few others) will have to pass.

Message: from the rumor mill:
the dome run will not finish in the dome, it will finish in Reliant Stadium, and that was the only day the stadium was available.
yes, it does make the runners chose what race to run, but over the years, increasing numbers are beginning to be disapointed in the 30K. starting too early (6:00am this year), concrete too hard on the legs, so far out of houston, etc. also, it's much longer than the "end" race if you're building up to run the ep half marathon, which many people are beginning to do.
it is a warmup series race, and it is a HARRA race, and if you're getting ready to run the hp marathon, it may be a good idea to run that far in preparation, but not everybody is ready to run a full marathon, and the dome run does give them somewhere to race that day.
yes, you have to make a choice between the two, but if you "pass", i guess that means that it wasn't actually your favorite race after all ...

Message: That makes sense then if the stadium was only available on that particular day. I have run both the 30K and Dome Run the last several years and was disappointed that they were both being held on the same day. I also notice that participation drops off between the 20K and 25K and still more with the 30K. Even though the Dome Run would be much more enjoyable, the 30K will help my marathon training a bit more.
Good luck to participants in both races!

Message: Joel, I feel the same way you feel (reading your initial message). When I first learned the Houston Press had changed the date, I sent an email to them and they responded telling me why they had to make the date change (only date available to run into Reliant Stadium). While I understand, I share your thoughts and feelings. This has also always been on my "top 5 list" as a favorite race. Since I am a HARRA member and belong to a running club and need the training aspect of the 30K, for those reasons I have to give up running the Dome Run this year. In response to the person who said, "it must not be your favorite run if you are not going to run it", I disagree with that statement. Avid runners get use to certain races being at specific times each year. Like you, I had planned on the Dome Run being November 16th and upon learning that it was Dec 8th, I was very upset and disappointed. I am going to miss running the Dome Run (my first one to miss in 6 years) but my loyality to running the HARRA races as well as using the 30K as a "long run" for my training made me have to choose NOT to do one of my all time favorite races. On a side note: I found out just yesterday that The Houston Press actually printed the email I sent in their "letters to the editor" column. One last item: Another reason the Dome Run is so popular is the distance--10K's are hard to come by in the Greater Houston area and 10K is a great distance for a race. Joel--I'll see you at the 30K (smile) and before then at the 25K---Thanks!
