Subject: Y100 Boerne Tri IP: Logged
Message: Can someone give me their personal experiences about subject triathlon? I've never done it, don't know diddly about it or what to expect. I understand the format is different than conventional sequence. Water cold? Run fast? Killer hilly bike course? Where to stay for lodging? Local eateries I just have to visit. Watering holes? Do's and don'ts. Would appreciate any info. Thanks.

Message: Yea, I'd like to know some info too. I know its a swim, run, bike. Is the water cool enough for wetsuits? I'm also doing the Tall Texas Half Ironman in September, does the Y100 cover part of the same course. I know it must be hilly and extremely hot. Thanks.

Message: The Boerne tri is an awesome race. No wetsuits for Y100, yes (both times) to Tall Texan. Y100 is swim, run, bike. Nice to mix it up some, especially good race for the biker. Run is a little off-road for part of it and then regular street. The bike is hilly, challenging. Different bike and runs for Y100 & Tall Texan. Tall Texan very challenging both run and bike. The Boerne Vistro is a great restaurant as is the Bear Moon Cafe for bfast. Hotels are just your normal sort. Y100 post race party is very good. The Tall Texan is relatively new race and getting better and better each year.

Message: Y100 is an excellent race.
For hotels, contact the Boerne Chamber of commerce.
There are 2 transitions, T1 is at the lake, You run 6.5 miles to Boerne for T2. This is also where you finish.
You set up T2 before the race and take a shuttle to the lake to set up T1. The race organizers have your stuff (goggles etc...) brought back for you to pick up after the race. It is VERY well organized.
Hope this helps.

Message: Boerne Lake is a nice lake to swim in. Water temp is about 80 right now. Usually the wind isn't too strong in the morning so the chop is typically minimal. Water is pretty clean with visibility currently about 10 to 15 feet.
If it rains shortly before the race date, look for some muddy conditions for the first segment of the run. Run is mostly flat with some tricky footing in the trails at the beginning and along a grassy portion along I-10.
Good challenging bike course with several nice hills. Not as steep as Tall Texan climbs, but close on a few. Watch out for the infamous Tarry Bank climb along Toutant Beauregard. After that climb it's mostly sailing back to the finish.
Good luck.
