Message: Kudos to Andrew Stewart (once again) for organizing a super race. While the weather was unbearably hot for an evening run, there is not much anyone can do about that in Houston (Sugar Land) in mid-June! Andy promoted this as a "no-frills" race, but the only thing he did not have was a t-shirt. The post race party was fantastic---a variety of food and plenty of it, music, a couple of vendors, water, powerade, sodas, and access to FLS to browse and shop. A LOT of good door prizes!! I did not place, but the awards were nice for a "no-frills" race.
It was really great to have this opportunity for a mile race. It would be GREAT if Andy could do this twice a year--maybe once in February and then again in June--just to give us an chance to compare our times in different seasons/weather. Thanks to Andy and his volunteers for a job well done!! I will be back next year to do this, and hopefully will show improvement by then!! (smile) Bonnie Jo

Message: Bonnie, Thanks! We had 126 runners, not bad for a first-time mile race. Next June I will move the start time back one hour to help a little on the temperature. It was HOT. Masters race would then start at 7:45pm. I will keep a February mile in mind. I love that distance. Thanks to Tom McBrayer for making the large quarter-mile split signs and to Aunt Jean for another great post-race spread. Glad you had fun. The times were fast with a nice course. Check out the results section of RTN.

Message: not to "steal" you idea, but it might be fun to have a sort-of "series" with several races, possibly each one sponsored by a different running store, on a different course near each store.
i know it's hard to get business competitors to work together sometimes, but in this case, maybe everyone could actually benefit ... especially the runners.
thanks for a great race Andy, it was really fun, and you guys did a super job.

Message: Thanks for coming out to the race Kent. Like I said, I love the mile race distance. I kind of "stole" the idea from the Congress Avenue Mile in Austin with RunTex, a race I would recommend to anyone. Thanks go to Paul Carrozza for starting and building that one. The runners end up benefitting from good ideas. It is a great workout, even though it is "only" a mile.
