Subject: Dog Ridge distances? IP: Logged
Message: Do others think the swim & run were longer than the advertised distances? I thought I was having a good swim, but my time, when I exited the water, was 2min slower than I expected. I also felt good on the run, but my run time was 1 min per mile slower than a similar distance 2 weeks ago.

Message: The swim may have been a little long, but I didn't check my watch until I got to the transition area, which was a pretty good distance from the swim exit. I know the folks who put this on spent a lot of time trying to get the swim distance measured correctly.
The run was pretty slow for me also. I think a lot of it had to do with both the difficultly of the bike course and the cross country portion of the run. The distance seemed right though.
Overall, I certainly plan to do this race again. It was well run and I felt safe throughout the course (even on the HILL).

Message: I agree that the swim was longer than I anticipated. I expected to be at least 2-3 minutes faster myself. I was even surprised looking at the top swimmers that I knew would swim faster than they did. I'm betting the swim was more like 750 meters.
I was also slower (about 1 minute) on the run than I expected, but I have a feeling that it was just me because I was just having a hard time for some reason (maybe the margaritas & lack of sleep had something to do with it). Since part of the run was off-road, that may be part of the reason for being slow. I am thinking that is was more because of the bike ride.
