Message: We have participated in Maribell's 5K since it's inception in 2001. We run approximately 50 5K's each year in addition to all the HARRA races. Maribell's is one of the absolute best organized, best planned small 5K events in which we have ever participated. Addtionally, we have been some of the largest 5K's in town that get a lot of money from sponsors and their post race parties are dismal compared to what Maribell's has to offer. The only two complaints I have are that I wish there was a water stop at the turn around and I wish there could split callers, not just markers, at each mile. Major KUDOS to Pete Cahill and Jay Lee for all their work and efforts.

Message: Bonnie Jo,
Consider the problem taken care of; it will be on the list of items for next year. We had 113 people sign up race day and that was a little pull on our resources. If you recall one of the issues last year was no water right after the finish line, it was fixed this year but we will have to work on the turn around next year. As for split callers, it would have been nice to have a few more volunteers. I had to put my family to work the morning of the race and they were on vacation just to get everything taken care of. I can't tell you why this is such a great race, but I can tell you that the runners seem to be really laid back. I made an announcement about results and everyone seem to be more interested in the pizza, bagels and beer.
I hope to see you guys at the Run for the Badge on Aug 16th and then the Seabrook music festival run on Aug 30th. I know that conflicts with the Cougar Classic, but I promise we will have an accurate 5K in Seabrook.

Message: Jay, I slapped a GPS onto that Seabrook course and it is dead accuarate. That 3rd mile leg measured exactly 1.00 miles. The 1st and 2nd as well as the overall lengths are also extremely accurate. Thus, all you've got to do is ensure that those mile-markers are positioned accurately.
Unfortunately, I scheduled that high prioity race one year ago for the first Saturday in October. It's a great event thus, I directed (ordered) my wife to plan her travel around that date. Then I find that it was rescheduled -- what a bummer!
Will future renditions of that great event be scheduled on the last Saturday of August or are you going to revert back to the first Saturday in October?
Bonnie was certainly right, Jay's the best scorer and nobody works harder than Pete and thus, they and their helpers regularly produces the 2nd best annual race in the greater Houston area. Well, maybe it's the best however, a persoanl bias may have slipped in here.

Message: The GPS is a great tool, I totally agree. I drove the course that morning with my GPS and placed all the markers. As someone who has sat at many a finish lines and listened to people come across the line and say mile 2 was long or 1 was short it pays to take that little extra time and be sure.
The Seabrook run was moved because the music festival moved. I can not tell you that next year it will be the last weekend in August but it should be around that time.
The sign of a true runner, schedules his vacation around runs!!!!

Message: Hey you guys. You are spoiling everything. Do you want every one in the Houston area to know about Maribells? I do triathlons but there is one 5K that is always on my calendar its Maribells! It's kind of a cozy race. The course is nice and its always hotter than hades. I think the fact that there is not 500 people at the start line trampling over you makes it nice. Well maybe I'm being selfish but it's the best kept 5K secret around!
