Runner Triathlete News [ return ] From Message Andrei   10/12/2003 22:14:59 Subject: Huntsville 1/2 Marathon IP: Logged Message: Texas Distance Runners: The Huntsville Half Marathon is one of the best half marathon races that I know of... I just got to race this past Saturday (10-11-03), and I was impressed with the quality of the race, the planning, the logistics, etc. Four outstanding things come to mind: 1. race was VERY well marked 2. water station everywhere 3. hilly route - great way to prepare and train for your next marathon 4. after the race food and hydration stations very well prepared... lots of bananas, apples, nuts, water, etc. Two thumbs up to Mr. Ken Johnson, the race director... I plan to race again next year... God's speed to all of you runners out there... God bless, Andrei PS I am racing in the NY marathon in three weeks... this 1/2 marathon is a great way to gauge your fitness before any Nov-Dec marathon... I appreciate how hard they all work. Thanks to them and all those who helped! Since the cost of races has gotten some attention recently, this race was bargin at $15 but for good reasons. It wasn't a chip race, which I understand adds about $5 to the cost. Also no police were used. In Houston, police are normally used and are paid at overtime rates. This points to an advantage that a smaller community has in putting on a race, greater flexibility.
