Subject: Which race to run? IP: Logged
Message: Here are all the choices for Saturday April 3rd. I need to know which one will have the least competition so I can place near the top. I am male 33 and can run 5k in about 20 minutes.
1. Bellaire Trolley Run 5k run/walk
2. Run for the Son
3. Shriner Scurry
4. Dulles Dash 2nd Annual 5k & 1K Kids
5. Houston Sleep Center 5 K Sleep Walk
6. Yuri's Night 5K Fun Run/Walk

Message: Do your research: 1) check results from last years races. 2)Find a race with 5 year age groups. 3) Don't run races with guys whose last names are Wade,Lara,Yoder,Armeteros or Riley. They are all faster than you.

Message: Hmmm... I think that just about everyone at the Houston Sleep Center 5K Walk will have trouble completing the course in 20 minutes -- you might take that one outright.
Course you might get DQed for running. ;)
Anybody know if this race allows runners?

Message: For what it is worth the Yuri's night run will be around 100 people. I think the age groups will be 10 year. The course will be a combination of roads and XC and should be enjoyable. I am doing the timing for the race, so I hope the results are accurate and fast. The cause is good and the people putting on the race are busting their butts to do what they can. Go to www.sparx.net/yuri/run_index if you want to know more about the race.

Message: I was one of 12 competitors in last year's Sleep Center 5k. The did a very nice job with the race but a less good job on marketing and publicity (which they've fixed this year). It's at Bear Creek Park, a very nice venue. From what I've seen it definitely appears to be a walk this year, not a run.

Message: Thanks for the advice guys. But the reason I did not do any research is because, deep down I already knew what I was going to do.....Go to the run closest to my apartment. Sleep is more important than the possibility of win, place or show.
I guess I will just take it in the shorts at the Bellaire Trolley run. I am the guy that does a 6 minute first mile, a 7 minute second mile and a high 6 minute third mile while everybody and their brother passes me up, because I started too fast.

Message: Message to Tonya:According to your last post you are only going to run three miles at the Trolley run. I strongly encourage you to run the full race(3.1 Miles). See you there!

Message: Maybe that's why everybody and their brother passes him up. He's standing on the side of the road at the 3 mile mark!

Message: Hey Tonya... remember me? Your ex - Gillooly.. I'm out of the big house now and can take out your competition like I did Nancy Kerrigan in the past. I'll just whap everyone in the knee with a lead pipe who tries to pass you. If the strategy works, it will take us all the way to the Olympics!
