Message: Well, I must say that I'm more than a little disappointed with the White Rock Half. HALF of the aid stations did not have enough water or gatorade or cups or all of the above. In fact, there was not even enough water at the finish line. Thank goodness for the quick-thinkning volunteers who had water hoses at some of the aid stations and who were literally running to fill the water coolers in the finish area. I'm not a front-of-the-packer, but I don't run a the back either. I was running 9:45-10:00 minute miles, and I know that there were quite a few people behind me who would have appreciated not having to stand in line at the waterfountains or simply go without. I had a goal-time in mind, but due to the fact that us not-front-runners had no aid, my goal went right out the window. Does my goal not matter because you know I can't win?
The race brochure and the website stated that the race was limited to 5000 people, so why was there not enough aid for 5000 people? Did the CCCD over-extend themselves paying for chip timing or was this a profit-making venture? An estimated 4000 people registered at $30-40 per person (early vs late registration), that's $120,000+! For the $80 that my husband and I paid for the privelege of running the race, I expected more than a couple of t-shirts and only a COUPLE of cups of water. At the very least I expected to actually have SOMETHING at the aid stations.

Message: Amy,
Trust me, you aren't alone in your thoughts of the race. Not at all.
[1] The course was really awful. Not sure what Mr. Lewis George was thinking, "Lets make this course as tough as we can. I think people will like it better." C'mon, man....
[2] The running out of water was simply unexcusable. It's no longer an aesthetic issue...it's a LIFE THREATENING ISSUE. 77 degrees by the finish is pretty serious business.
I'm sure they've gotten their share of abuse... I just hope it's a better event next year.

Message: Well, I need to say thank you to Lewis George for the personal, timely and sincere response I received. He assumed complete responsibility for the problems on Saturday, which takes alot, and I appreciate it.
As for the course, I actually liked it- maybe I'm just nuts - hills are fun!

Message: I was also very disappointed in The Half. There is no excuse for having to wait five minutes to receive water!!!! If you could get water. And that was at the first water station. I just completed the 25K in Houston. It was so so so much better organized!!!! I did not have to wait for water or powerade. What a concept!!! They actually had powerade!

Message: Amy do you ever post anything positive?
All you ever say is that you are not in the front... etc etc, and complain complain complain, perhaps you should put more effort into your training instead of always complaining! Were you not the one who posted the nasty letter in RTN? LOOK INSIDE BABE! ZETTA CARROLL

Message: Zetta,
what do you care if Amy post negative stuff, if it is false debate the issue but don't bag on someone just because they choose to post the negative. If you have answers to her complaints state them, otherwise chill out yourself! Terry Garrett

Message: Zetta,
Excuse me, but who are you to criticize when and how much I train? I work 60+ hours a week. In February, I snapped both my tibia and fibula, resulting in major ankle surgery and leaving me with 7 screws and a plate in my leg. In March, I had a baby. I am not complaining; in fact, I am ELATED that I CAN run, regardless of the pace.
My complaint was about the LACK OF WATER on the course. An important point about where I was in the race was that there were probably 2000 people BEHIND me who also had NO WATER! According to the results, you didn't do the race, so you wouldn't know.
I hardly feel that 2 negative comments in three years classifies me as a cronic complainer, but if that's how you view things, so be it. As for positives, I've written several, including a response to my own comment here thanking Mr. George for the personal reply I received. If you disagree with my comments, by all means, speak up. Otherwise, why don't you follow your own advice and occupy your time with training or some kind of positive comment?

Message: Zetta,
Amy is one of the most positive people I've met in triathlon. If she's not racing, she's volunteering. So what if she said something negative? I agree that the water situation at the Half needed to be addressed, and I think it was. The same race director put on the Freedom Run, which had plenty of refreshments. I also agree with Terry - if you don't agree with something, debate the facts, but don't slam someone simply because they dared to have an opinion and express it. Get over it.
