2002 USAT South-MidWest region triatlete of the year Brandon
Marsh left his speedo in Austin, but still made short work of
the field at the season-opening Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon on
February 2, in Grand Prairie, TX. A star-studded field of
approximately 200 tackled windy conditions which made for some
tough racing. What the race lacks in size, it surely makes up
for in quality as most of the top athletes in the region toed
the line.Marsh took control of the race during the second run of the
Formula 1 format (run - bike - run - bike - run) to cruise to
victory in one hour, 31 minutes and 20 seconds. Todd Hink entered T1 in tandem with Marsh, but the latter's
strong cycling put him ahead of Hink after the second leg. A
couple of strong runs sealed the deal for the 28-year-old. Hink
scored the silver medal in 1:33:45, just five seconds up Paul
Pear. Another Austin ace, Sabine Bildstein, led wire-to-wire in the
women's race to claim that victory in 1:37:45. Masters titles went to Donald Haener and Karen Hagner, while
Grandmasters titles were awarded to Kurt Truax and Colleen
Isdale. Race results
