Willie's 10K for Farm Aid
Training ProgramsThis ain't no picnic!
It's the national run and "mosey" with Willie that will raise
big money for a great cause: our American farmers.
And the 10K run at 8 a.m. on August 25 is just the beginning.
Let's just say, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., it's "wall to wall
Willie!"
After the Sunday morning 10K run, special musical guests,
including Corey Morrow and Kevin Fowler, will start a blow-out
concert on on Austin's Auditorium Shores. At 6 p.m., Willie
Nelson & Family will take the stage and play until 8 p.m.
Then the Willie concert is followed by a free, exclusive
premiere of the first in the upcoming PBS American Master
series, "Willie Nelson: Still is Still Moving". The 90-minute
documentary, produced by Thirteen/WNET New York, profiles the
iconic musician who has toured almost non-stop for 40 years,
logging millions of miles and thousands of nights. The film's
rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into Willie's life on and off the
bus. Austinite Turk Pipkin is a co-writer and producer.
Make sure to bring the family out early to enjoy the Farmer's
Market, produced by Austin's homegrown Whole Foods. There'll be
an all-comers BBQ cookoff contest where you can judge who has
the best BBQ in Texas. Food, beverages, kids activities and a
FREE Krispy Kreme Donut Dipping Station add to the fun.
The national Willie Nelson Farm Aid 10K has chosen the fitness
mecca of Austin as its centerpiece, to raise awareness about the
loss of family farms and gathers funds to keep farm families on
their land. Runners from across the nation will descend upon
Austin to enjoy the 10K run with Austinites and other national
running enthusiasts and "mosey-ers".
Farm Aid has raised more than $24 million to promote a strong
and resilient family farm system of agriculture. Farm Aid
supports national, regional and local efforts to promote
sustainable agriculture, fight factory farms, advocate for fair
farm prices, and provide credit counseling and direct assistance
to farm families.
