The Ultimate Challenge Returns! The top prize money awaits! The
top teams are on their way! Michael Epstein Sports Productions,
Octagon Marketing and the USA Adventure Racing present The 2nd
Annual 24-Hour Adventure Race. The 24-Hour Adventure will not
only be the largest adventure race ever staged, but it will be
the most unique as well. The event will once again feature a
camp out at beautiful Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu with
fellow competitors. The race will host world renown adventurers
such as defending champion Team Venture Four featuring Harald
Zundel, and Robert Nagle and Team Eco-Internet as well as many
other world class athletes. The event will begin the morning of Friday, November 16, 2001 at
Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu, California, just north of
Los Angeles. Teams of three will be competing against each
other for the title of National Champion by battling the Pacific
Ocean by kayak, climbing the rugged Southern California
mountains on foot and fighting off fatigue to navigate their way
to the finish over 100 miles away in a non-stop 24-hour ultimate
adventure challenge.
Disciplines of kayaking, mountain biking, trekking, climbing,
coasteering and navigation will challenge all comers. Don't let
the National Championship title scare you; while the race is
tough and tenacious, we welcome all participants, especially
first time 24 Hour participants. The 24-Hour Adventure will be
one of the richest in U.S. adventure racing history, with a
$20,000 cash purse.
Elite adventure racing teams from throughout the United States
will converge on Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu, California
to begin this prestigious event on November 16th. Robert Nagle
of Team Eco-Internet has described the race as, "another unique
and majestic glimpse of the world!" Nagle has been a member of
winning teams in the Raid Galoises, Eco-Challenge and Southern
Traverse.
"The 24 Hour Adventure is the ultimate adventure, exceeding the
Ironman Triathlon in a test of physical endurance and
toughness," said Michael Epstein, event producer and president
of MESP. "The Adventure Race will challenge adventurers'
physical endurance, mental tenacity and their ability to race
without sleep, while at the same time allowing them to enjoy the
experience of a lifetime."
The 24-Hour Adventure will be televised on the Outdoor Life
Network in a one-hour feature presentation (air-date to be
determined). Updated airdates will be kept on the website at
