BALANCE BAR(R) and Octagon proudly announce the BALANCE BAR(R)
Adventure Racing
Schools, part of the BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Race Series.
Guiding the mind
and body together, these two-day Adventure Racing Schools will
train
adventure racers to establish and achieve new personal goals in
team and
individual settings, while teaching the skills necessary to
compete in the
24-Hour arena.
New to the 2003 BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Race Series, these
Adventure Racing
Schools will be taught by the best and most successful adventure
racers the
sport has to offer. The core curriculum serves a threefold
purpose. First,
to give racers an authentic introduction to adventure racing;
secondly, to
prepare and equip individuals with the knowledge to successfully
complete a
24-hour adventure race; and lastly, to fully certify students to
compete in
a BALANCE BAR(R) 24-Hour Adventure.
Accomplished adventure racers Liz Caldwell and Barry Siff will
be two of the
instructors at each of the Adventure Racing Schools. "With
experienced
instructors and team leaders, the BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Racing
Camp is a
'one-stop shop' for gaining the skills and knowledge necessary
to compete in
the sport of adventure racing," said Siff.
The core curriculum will focus on navigation, trekking,
kayaking, ropes,
mountain biking, teamwork, nutrition, gear and training.
Instruction will
primarily be conducted "in the field," as students will
participate in the
core disciplines of adventure racing throughout. All learning
will be put
to the test when students take part in their final exam - an
authentic
adventure race.
"What is so exciting about the addition of the camps for this
year is that
the entire BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Race Series now has something
for
everyone, regardless of your ability or experience," said Camp
Director
Jonathan Denison. "Whatever your background or experience level
may be, the
BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Race Series is set up so that you can
acquire the
skills and experience necessary to accomplish your goals. You
can literally
start the year as a novice and end the year as an experienced
adventure
racer."
Adventure Racing Schools will take place in Denver, CO, on May
10-11, at
YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park; New York, on May 31-June 1,
at Baker Camp
on Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park; Boston, MA, on August 2-
3, at
Thompson Island Outward Bound in Boston Harbor; and Los Angeles,
on August
9-10, at Sycamore Canyon - Point Mugu State Park.

$500.
