Andrea Fisher of Austin, Texas is ready to conquer the 2004
Halfmax
Triathlon (half iron-distance). The race, set to take place on
Sunday,
June 20, 2004, will feature Fisher's first attempt at the
Halfmax
title.Fisher is without a doubt one of the best long course American
female
professional triathletes in the sport today. She recently took
4th
place at Ironman New Zealand with a time of 9:42. She is a
former Lady
Longhorn swimmer with 8 top-5 Ironman finishes, as well as the
2-time
winner of the Blackwater Eagleman Half Ironman, where she was
the
former course record holder. Back home in Texas she is a
multiple time
winner of the Danskin Triathlon and the Capital of Texas
Triathlon.
Jamie Cleveland, Fisher's husband and professional triathlete,
will be
traveling with her for the Halfmax Triathlon weekend. He is the
former Canadian National Champion and Ironman Florida 2000
Champion.
His recent wins include the Gulf Coast Half Ironman and the
Trilogy
Triathlon. The pair is making plans to co-host several
activities
around the weekend of racing at Innsbrook Resort.
Saturday's Quartermax, Minimax (kid?s triathlon) and Sunday's
Halfmax
will be held at the 7,000-acre Innsbrook Resort. The Resort
provides a
backdrop for one of the most spectacular venues in the sport. A
racing
field of 1,600 is expected over the weekend.
Age Group and weight class athletes will be competing for an
unprecedented $12,000 in prize certificates provided by
Trisports.com.
Each age group division will receive certificates based on the
number
of entrants.
Many athletes this weekend will be competing for a different
prize.
Halfmax racers will be vying for an inaugural slot in the 2004
US Half
Triathlon Championship. Athletes that finish in the top 20% of
their
respective age group will qualify for the Championship to be
held
September 25, 2004 in Kansas City, Missouri. This qualifier-
only event
will host the best long course triathletes in all age group and
weight
class divisions from around the U.S.
