The Hi-Tec Adventure Race invades Dallas, Texas, for the fourth
year in a row on Sunday, July 15, 2001 in Cedar Hill State Park
and will begin in the dark. Seasoned competitors, chasing the
eight-city series, will join many local competing weekend
warriors from across the entire state of Texas for this amazing
adventure race. Start time for this year's race is 5:00 a.m.
In response to the extreme heat and difficult climate of the
event held in Dallas in 1998, the race start was move to help
competitors dodge the heat. The popularity of adventure racing is exploding and the unique
and original style of adventure racing is captivating people of
all different kinds. The famous trademark for adventure racing
has become these highly different and creative "special tests"
where prior to the race, competitors have no knowledge of the
course set-up of what special tests await them. Teams of three compete in trail running (five to eight miles),
kayaking (one to two miles), and mountain biking (10-15 miles)
in a measure of endurance and teamwork. In addition, eight to
ten "special tests" will be added to further challenge
competitors. Some special tests in past races have included a
mud pit, a 12-foot wall, a super slippery mountin, a human
ladder, and a human sacrifice event. Each special test is
developed to test teams' mental agility in addition to their
physical ability. Whether a first time participant of a seasoned adventure races,
the Hi-Tec Adventure Racing Series provides true extreme
adventure for everyone. All levels of competition are encouraged
to participate. For the first time ever, the 2001 series will include races for
kids. Kids 10 and Under get the chance to participate in and
learn about adventure racing in a fun and safe environment set
up especially for them. These races have proved thus far to be
highly successful and entertaining for everyone. For more information, log on to www.mesp.com.
