The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), the nation's largest
non-profit organization devoted to grassroots running is
delighted to announce today that the Houston Masters Sports
Association (HMSA) is pledging $4000 to the RRCA's Roads Scholar
program."It's been a long time in the making, but we are finally able to
say that we, Houston Masters Sports Association, are pledging
$4000 to the RRCA's Roads Scholar program," says Michael Luna of
HMSA. "We are doing this by digging into our funds and by
donating one dollar from each entry fee of our annual 25k race
to be held this November 11, 2001." The HMSA are hopeful that
they can contribute this amount annually. "This is great," says RRCA President Freddi Carlip. "The Cherry
Blossom Ten Mile, the Atlanta Track Club and the Lilac Bloomsday
Association gave substantial contributions to the RRCA's Roads
Scholar(R) program in 2001. HMSA's pledge will really kick-start
the fundraising for 2002." Since 1996 the Roads Scholar program has funded 30 post-
collegiate athletes with a total of $120,000. RS "alumni" are
now filling roster lists of award-winners in current races.
