Siri Lindley made it
four-for-four in July by winning the International Triathlon
Union World
Cup race Sunday in Corner Brook, Canada.
Lindley (Boulder, Colo.) had already run three ITU races in
July: the
ITU World Cup in Toronto (July 7), the Aquathlon World
Championship in
Edmonton (July 18) and the World Triathlon Championship in
Edmonton
(July 22).
In Corner Brook, Lindley finished the 1.5K swim, 40K bike and
10K run in
2 hours, 3 minutes and 16 seconds, 37 seconds ahead of U.S.
teammate
Barb Lindquist (Wilson, Wyo.), who was second. Wieke Hoogzaad of
The
Netherlands took third.
Lindley left the cold Corner Brook water in third behind
Lindquist and
Loretta Harrop of Australia. The three formed a tough lead group
on the
bike, and Lindley put down the hammer on the run.
"I love Canada," Lindley said after the race. "This is one of the
toughest races I have ever done in my life, I really felt like I
was
pushing as hard as I could the whole way. But it was worth it to
be able
to race for the crowd here."
American Susan Bartholomew Williams (Denver, Colo.) finished
eighth and
Alison Hayden (Dade, Fla.) was 17th.
Martin Krnavek of the Czech Republic won the men's race in
1:52:52. Nick
Radkewich (New London, N.H.), the lone U.S. entrant, in his
first ITU
race of the year, finished 11th in 1:55:54.
