Komen Houston Race for the Cure cancelled
October 13, 2001

From event organizers:

The Eleventh Annual Komen Houston Race for the Cure has been cancelled due to an early morning six-alarm fire in one of the Four Leaf Towers, 5100 San Felipe, in the Galleria area. Streets comprising the Race route were needed by emergency vehicles to gain access to the fire.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Houston Affiliate deeply mourns the loss of life associated with the fire. Our 2001 Race will not be rescheduled.

To all who registered, volunteered and supported the Race, we wish to express our deepest appreciation. Although our Race for the Cure was not run in the usual way, your donations and efforts will allow our work to eradicate breast cancer as a life- threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment to continue throughout the coming year.

We invite you to join us in our Komen Houston Race for the Cure 2002. We look forward to that event with renewed anticipation and ongoing gratitude for your participation.
