Bicycle Sport Shop is proud to announce its continued support
for the world's only all women's multi-sport series to include
duathlon and adventure racing events. The Trek MultiSportswomen
Series 2002 presents women of all ages and abilities with three
opportunities to participate in biking and running events in a
non-intimidating, nurturing and empowering environment.
Last year's event was the first all women's duathlon in the U.S.
and the largest duathlon in the South-Midwest region. The event
provided 400 women the chance to participate in a biking and
running event. It raised $3,000 for the benefit of Austin's
growing charity, Liv in the Game, an organization created to
help girls and women realize the life-sustaining benefits of
being an "everyday athlete". This year two new events have been
added to the series and proceeds from the three events will
again go to Liv in the Game and to helping girls and women in
living their dreams.
The 2002 Series presents three multi-sport events: new this year
is the Off-road Duathlon on March 23rd and the first-ever all
women's Adventure Race on May 4th. The successful On-road
Duathlon is back on April 21st in a new location. The events
will all involve running and biking, with some additional
challenges in the Adventure Race.
MultiSportswomen was founded by Lisa Lynam. Lynam, a Bicycle
Sport Shop sponsored athlete, has mentored hundreds of women to
successful first time finishes for Danskin and Ironman events.
Through her business, Women First Triathlon Consulting, Lynam
directs clinics, camps and events for women and girls of all
ages and fitness abilities. The eight-time Ironman finisher
comments, "After experiencing my own successes in the multi-
sport world, I have found it immensely satisfying to give back
to the sport by encouraging women to pursue challenges and to
discover the great physical, mental and social benefits of
competing in sport."
The Trek MultiSportswomen Series is purposely beginner-friendly
and aims to provide training programs to support women in
improving their skills, fitness and confidence. Bicycle Sport
Shop will host twice-weekly sessions beginning in February as
part of a 12-week training program leading up to the April 21st
Duathlon.
Bicycle Sport Shop Manager Trevor Crain claims, "Bicycle Sport
Shop is proud to support the women's multi-sport community with
these clinics which will empower women and break down the
barriers of fear that hold many back from accomplishments in
sports. The classes will build a foundation of knowledge and
skill, that will be the basis of a lifetime of multi-sport
enjoyment." Three special Dirt Bike clinics for beginner
mountain bikers are also planned in March. A one-day Adventure
Race clinic on April 20 will prepare athletes for the
orienteering and paddling experience.
