Mogaka, Ndereba Win Philadelphia Distance Run

At the 24th Jefferson Hospital
Philadelphia Distance Run, Kenyan Catherine Ndereba won her
fifth title here
and fourth in a row with a sterling 1:08:30, while countryman,
Ronald Mogaka
took the men's race in 1:01:25 over Simon Kasimili (1:01:45).Ndereba, 29, showed again why she is one of the world's best
road racers as
her 1:08:30 not only broke the long standing course record of
1:08:34 by Joan
Samuelson in 1984, but it also bettered Ingrid Kristiansen's
U.S. All-Comers
half-marathon record (1:08:32) set at New Bedford, Mass. in
1989.
Countrywoman Gladys Asiba finished a distance second in 1:11:15.
Ramilya Burangolova, 40, finished fourth overall in 1:11:41 and
the Russian
hit the masters record triple crown as she bettered the masters
course
(1:12:56), U.S. All-Comers (same as course) and world records
(1:11:54) set
respectively by Tatiana Pozdniakova in 1995, Pozdniakova and
Nicole Leveque
of France at the 1994 World Half-Marathon Championships in Oslo,
Norway.
Top Americans were Mike Cox, 24, Princeton, WV and Misti Demko,
33, Hershey,
PA who finished 9th (1:05:42) and 7th (1:14:46) respectively.
