Striders Duathlon cancelled
March 29, 2004
From Jack Weiss, event organizer
After much thought and conversation and deliberation with
Ester, Marty and
several others I am forced to announce the cancellation of the
14th Annual
Striders Duathlon due to a lack of participation. As of this
morning we had
only 12 entrants and had received only 2 over the last 2
weeks. I cannot
financially or in good conscience operate or produce an event
with this
minimal turnout. It's not fair to first and foremost my
volunteers who give
up a substantial portion of their free time, to the few
athletes that might
attend and finally to Ester and myself. It deeply saddens me
that an event
must come to an end this way. Over the last few years for what
ever reason
this event has steadily lost entrants but always cleared 150.
Normally at
this point we have somewhere between 90 and 115, so you can see
this year
things are way off.
This certainly is NO reflection on the volunteers or the other
folks who
have made this event happen. You all have always been first
class in my
book and with the athletes. I have no understanding as to why
this is
happening. We promoted the event as we always do and sent our
notices via
e-mail as we always do. So I am at a loss for this sudden
downturn. This
has NO affect on the Woolman Triathlon which in fact is drawing
registrants
at it's normal rate as of now. Again I regret this decision
but needed to
make it before I inconvienced you all any further. I trust I
will see you
all in August. Again thanks for your friendship, kindness and
outstanding
support. Jack
