Texas Trail Endurance Runs!
More than 1,000 of the top ultra marathoners from over 40
states and five countries are expected to compete in the 2001
Sunmart
Texas Trail Endurance Runs at Huntsville State Park on Dec. 8.
Sunmart
continues to be the largest trail endurance run in the United
States
with two separate runs, a 50 miler and a 50-kilometer event. The
entire
race takes places in the confines of the tree-studded park,
which is
located one hour north of Houston on IH-45.
The top finishers from 2000 have agreed to compete in this race,
with
some strong contenders expected to challenge, according to
second year
race director Roger Soler of San Antonio.
"Right now, we're about 10% ahead of last year's pace as far as
registration goes," said Soler, a 1984 Peruvian Olympian and a
former
Sunmart 50K champion. "I think this year's race will be one of
the most
competitive ones we've ever seen. There will also be a cash
purse to the
overall winners, but the amount has not been determined as of
yet."
For more information, call Soler at (210) 366-3701.
