The results of the 2001 USA
Triathlon Board of Directors election were announced this
weekend at the
November Board meeting at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado
Springs.
The new Board members will be Jim Girand (Palo Alto, Calif.) in
the
Western Region, Valerie Ellsworth-Gattis (Louisville, Ky.) in the
Central Region, Diane Travis (Clermont, Fla.) in the Eastern
Region and
Karen Buxton (Greensboro, N.C.) as the At-Large representative.
Girand is on USA Triathlon's Duathlon Commission and has
represented the
United States at every International Triathlon Union (ITU) World
Duathlon Championship but one.
Ellsworth-Gattis has served as chair of the Women's and Age Group
commissions and competed on Team USA.
Travis is the current co-chair of the Duathlon Commission and is
co-president of the Florida Region. She has also competed at
both the
long- and short-course world duathlon championships.
Buxton is the current co-chair of the Age Group Commission and
has
competed at both duathlon and triathlon world championships.
The new Board members will replace outgoing members Mike
Highfield
(Central Region), Katie Knight-Perry (Eastern Region), John Duke
(Western Region) and Sharron Ackles (At-Large) as of Jan. 1,
2002.
A total of 1,751 ballots were received and counted by the firm
of Waugh
& Associates, P.C.
