Siri Lindley won her fifth International Triathlon Union (ITU)
race in a row on Saturday at the World Cup race in Lausanne,
Switzerland, and secured her spot as the No. 1 ranked woman in
the world.Lindley (Boulder, Colo.) raced with a lead pack of nine on the
bike, and then took the lead early in the run to win in 2 hours,
2 minutes, 42 seconds. Jill Savege of Canada was second in
2:02:57 and Kathleen Smet of Belgium was third in 2:03:08.
American Alison Hayden (Tampa, Fla.) finished 35th.
Lindley won her first World Cup race ever in Lausanne in 2000,
and then won there again in 2001. Lindley also trains in
Switzerland during the race season.
Lindley's winning streak has consisted of victories at the World
Cup races in Edmonton, Corner Brook and Tiszaujvaros, Hungary
and the ITU points race in Geneva, Switzerland.
At the men's race in Lausanne, the Czech Republic's Filip Ospaly
out-sprinted Australia's Greg Bennett to win in 1:52:06. Bennett
finished in 1:52:12 and Great Britain's Andrew Johns was third
in 1:52:40.
