Elite triathlete Hunter Kemper placed eighth to lead the U.S.
team at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup race
today in Nice, France.Kemper, who went into the race ranked 10th in the world,
finished in 1 hour, 50 minutes, 31 seconds. Frank Bignet of
France won the men's race in 1:49:41. Volodymyr Polikarpenko of
Ukraine finished second (1:50:03) and Australia's Brad
Kahlefeldt was third (1:50:07).
Seth Wealing (Fowler, Ind.) finished 24th for the United States
and Joe Umphenour (Bellevue, Wash.) was 31st.
Susan Williams (Denver, Colo.) was the United States' top
finisher in the women's race in 10th with a time of 2:01:46.
Anja Dittmer of Germany won her second World Cup in a row with a
victory in 1:59:35. Australian Emma Snowsill was second
(1:59:41) and her teammate Liz Blatchford was third (2:00:02).
U.S. elite Amanda Pagon (Glenn Dale, Md.) finished 15th. Kelly
Rea (Marietta, Ga.) placed 30th. Susie Gallucci (Hudson, Ohio)
had the fastest swim of the day and went on to finish 39th.
Kelly Handel (Zionsville, Ind.) placed 41st.
