Brian Berryhill and Brenda Taylor achieved the "A" qualifying
standards for
their respective events in order to compete for Team USA at the
IAAF World
Outdoor Championships next month in Edmonton.
Berryhill, who placed 7th in the 1,500 meters at the GMC Envoy
USA Outdoor
Championships last month in Eugene, ran 3:35.56 in Lausanne,
easily bettering
the "A" standard of 3:36.20. Berryhill is now the #2 U.S.
athlete with an "A"
qualifier in the 1,500m, behind Gabe Jennings and ahead of
Michael Stember.
2001 U.S. champ Andy Downin, who must make the "A" standard to
compete in
Edmonton, just missed the mark in Lausanne finishing in 3:36.70.
Women's 400m hurdles third-place finisher in Eugene, Brenda
Taylor, earned a
spot on the U.S. squad by running 55.46 Monday in Zagreb.
The "A" standard
for that event is 55.67. She will be joined on Team USA by
Sandra Glover and
Tonja Buford-Bailey in the 400 hurdles in Edmonton.
