Wipe Out Kids Cancer hosts Run for Children benefit

Wipe Out Kids' Cancer (WOKC) will host its annual Run for the
Children presented by Tom Thumb at the Town of Addison's
Oktoberfest (15650 Addison Road) on Saturday, September 22,
2001. The run consists of a 5K Run/Walk, a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk
for kids and a 5K in-line skate race. A wheelchair competition
is included in the 5K and 1-Mile races. The Run for the
Children presented by Tom Thumb raises money to support
pediatric cancer research conducted at Children's Medical Center
of Dallas and is emceed by Macie Jepson of WFAA-TV Channel 8.
Sponsors for the race include Tom Thumb, Town of Addison, The
Dallas Morning News, WFAA-TV, MIX 102.9, and American Airlines.
Pre-registration race packets are available at RunOn! locations
in Dallas, Richardson and Irving, and run brochures are
available at all Tom Thumb locations. Online registration is
available by visiting www.active.com. Race Day registration
opens at 6:30 a.m. at the Oktoberfest Grounds. The 5K inline
skate race begins at 7:15 a.m., 1-Mile Fun Run begins at 7:45
a.m. and the 5K run/walk starts at 8 a.m. There will be
entertainment, awards and prizes throughout the morning.
Addison's Oktoberfest opens at 11:00 a.m. In conjunction with the Run for the Children, the "Night in
Munich" Benefit Auction kicks off the Oktoberfest weekend
festivities on Thursday, September 20, 2001 from 5:00 -9:00 p.m.
in the Addison Oktoberfest Main Tent on the Oktoberfest
Grounds. This event also benefits WOKC.
Wipe Out Kids' Cancer is a non-profit organization dedicated to
raising funds for pediatric cancer research at Children's
Medical Center of Dallas. Founded in 1980 by Cindy Brinker-
Simmons in honor of her late mother, the great tennis champion
Maureen "Little Mo" Connolly Brinker, who died of cancer at the
age of 34, Wipe Out Kids' Cancer has raised more than $1.7
