Message: I ran the Galloway Gallop 10k this past Saturday in Kemah on the boardwalk. I realize it was competing against the Spring Fling closer to home, but the Gallop is one to check out in the future. Well marked course (double loop 10k, single loop 5k), nice roads and good support. Worth the drive down there. Also, it supports the Galloway School and has nothing to do with Jeff... just in case it matters to some of you. :-)

Message: Sounds like you had a good time at a good race.
Just to let you know that it was a good Idea for you to point out the race has nothing to do with Jeff Gallowalker, because to some people it will matter.
Some in the running community chose not to support Jeff G.
Thanks for the info.

That is exactly why I added that in... I don't want the race to lose future support because of their name even though they lack affiliation. It was a small, low-frills, well-run (no pun intended) race. Enjoyed it and will do it again.

Message: I agree. I had no idea there was a Galloway school. I assumed the race was associated with a Galloway clinic or something. Thank you for clearing that up.

Message: Thanks Happy. I am one of those who took a pass on that race because I thought it was an offering from the Gallowwalkers. Your input is much appreciated and I hope to participate next year.

Message: I too appreciate the clarification. Based on the name alone, I chose to stay away. I assumed that anyone at that race who tried to run fast would be looked down upon. I figured the entry waiver would have a line about "I agree to take walking breaks at least once a mile..."
For the future, the race really should consider a name change to distance itself from Jeff Gallowalker.

Message: I agree with your input, Some guy, and will suggest that they consider a name change to the school for future years.

Message: I said they should consider a new name for the RACE, not the SCHOOL. They could call the race something like the Spring Gallup, with small letters below that state "Benefiting the Galloway School."
The fact is that Jeff Galloway has a very bad reputation among many competitive runners, and any race bearing the name Galloway (even if it's not related to Jeff) will likely be avoided by said runners.

Message: It is a sad statement that people avoided that race because they thought it was associated with Jeff Galloway.
Just off the top of my head, I would have to say Jeff Galloway is more responsible for the marathon boom in this country than any one single individual.
These races that we like to travel to and take part it in wouldn't be around if it weren't for the sponsors. These sponsors aren't interested unless the numbers are there. In that regard, we all owe Mr. Galloway a lot of thanks and praise for encouraging and making anybody believe they can finish a marathon.
My personal opinion is that cutoff times in road marathons should be at 5 hours. It is becoming to easy. frankly, I would be embarrassed to say I ran the marathon in 5hrs. 52 minutes. I wouldn't even admit to participating if I did that.
It just can't be that way anymore though with a 5 hour cutoff time. IN order to keep the numbers up in a race, which in turn leads to more sponsorship money, you have to be at about a 6 hour time limit or maybe more. If you don't start the race at the back, the Gallowwalkers shouldn't
effect you at all.
DO the race, eat, drink, get your stuff and go home. If you are worrying about all these people who say "I ran the marathon in 5:52", then you need to take a good hard look at yourself and your life in the mirror.
Running is a competiton, but your biggest competitor is yourself. You should be seeking to beat your best times, not worrying about what other people are saying who don't care about their time.
Also,I have absolutely no problem with somebody doing a 4:30 marathon and them walking 30 seconds every mile or so.
Jeff Galloway has done a million times more for this sport than everybody on this board combined. The criticism of him is very narrow minded, unjust, and idiotic.

Message: If you are turned off with Galloway because he has a credibility problem, then I understand. If it is because he encourages walking, then I stand by my above statement.
