Not a fan of chips

Message: I am officially not a fan of chip timing. It detracts from the event, not adds to it. It is just a big hastle to have to get the chip, tie it properly to the shoe, and turn it back in. It's a pain. You want to know your time? Look at the clock as you finish, or wear a watch. Why the heck would any runner want this pain in the butt at a race? DO AWAY WITH THE CHIP!

Message: I agree that the chip is over-used. But don't let it be a hassle for you. Just don't bother to pick the chip up. No one is forcing you to wear the chip.

Message: Just curious...do you place at the events you participate in??? If so, would you rather stand around for an hour or three hrs. waiting for awards? If the lines are long for picking up your chip, then you should've been there earlier. And I've never had to "turn" in a chip before? They normally do it for you at the finish line.

Message: Seems like a silly post because if you don't want to wear the chip then you don't have to. I think you made this post just to rile up some people. Everybody agrees that the chip is important because most of the time you are at the back of the pack having to wait 60 seconds to get across the start line.
I think that every person that you pass for the first 60 seconds of the race you should be able to slap in the back of the head, because if they are getting passed then they should have started further back. I love it when someone is ahead of me and they start running like a 10 minute pace. There is absolutely no regard for running pace at any event I have done since I started doing a bunch races starting with the HP Marathon.
Go look at the results of the HP marathon and see the people finishing over 4 hours and how their chip time is only 15 seconds slower than the gun time. What that means is some very slow people were way too far up front. Which means they should have to wear a bright pink outfit the next mararthon they run.

Message: Keep the chip do away with the guy that started this post. No one is forcing you to wear the chip, so don't. The rest of us like results in a reasonable time at the race and posted results within a day after the race. You must be related to Luvtorun.
I agree with Sylvester on the back of the head slapping.

Message: I think they should get rid of the chips. Potato chips, corn chips, etc....
They are making people fat and then those fat people feel the need to start at the front of a race and then we are not allowed to slap them in the head as we run by. No to chips.

Message: Are you crazy???? Did you ever wait for awards before there were chips? Not only did it take forever but the results were usually a mess. It is the most accurate and efficient method of timing a big event. Go Chips!!!!

Message: You are correct. Gotta get those results posted immediately so we can all out of there. We wouldn't want to do anything like sit around and socialize, eat, and drink with other people who just did the race.
Quit blowing things out of proportion. YOu know as well as I do that you didn't sit around for 3 hours after a race waiting to get an award. If you did, I'm sure you did't stand off with your nose in a corner somewhere. I'm sure you were enjoying your visiting with other people, drinking, and eating snacks.
If a mistake was made every now and then, who cares!!!!!!! I'm sure it was corrected, and if it wasn't, well, the sun still came up the next day.

Message: You must be smokin crack! Chips are hip! With maybe a few exceptions I have never had to wait over 15min. to get my chip. Everytime they take it at the finish, while they are taking it off I lean on their shoulder giving me a rest. You get transition times and the break down of your splits when your doing tri's. These things would not be possible w/out them. They are hardly noticable to wear, and well if you don't like chips you probably don't like the instant reply penalty challenges in the NFL. Oh well everyone has an opinion, unfortunately yours is way off.

Message: Ya I guess I don't like the chip. I also don't like computers, they don't do anything useful. I wish we could go back to typewriters. As a matter of fact I don't like cell phones either. I like to use pay phones and rotary phones. I especially don't like Microwaves, because I would rather rub two rocks together and start a fire and cook my food. Do you know what really kills me? Remote Controls. Man did I use to love to get up and change the channel every time.
