Message: I once again thoroughly enjoyed this race for the twelfth time (how many can claim that feat?) Great expanded course(didn't everyone enjoy the swimmer going off course during the initial left turn after Dave Rainey's explicit instructions?) The food was super once again, and the award presentations laced with good humor and specific times to show everyone how fast these age-groupers are -- how impressive! There were a couple of deep holes in the concrete on the bike course. I just missed one because I had my head down and there was a guy laid out on his back after presumably hitting that exact spot -- I hope he is O.K. Water stations were super -- ice was delivered upon request for my overheated
corpulent body. Patience is needed for the results. They are more gratifying when you have to wait for them.
I had a nice conversation with the winner Stefan from Germany at the packet pickup and after the race. He seemed a bit surprised to return to the post-race area with no one to schmooze with him for more than five minutes after his finish. I joked that I had accomplished my goal of finishing within an hour of the winner -- just barely! I asked him if triathlon was a huge sport in his native country. He said it was big and that the participants take it seriously (perhaps more seriously than most Americans).
