Message: tgarr and Steve need to kiss and make up. Perhaps take a gallowalk together. If they ever do meet up in a race, I hope they take a break each mile to eat donuts and pizza and finish the 5K in about 45 minutes while holding hands and singing a love song. See how the pengiun approach makes the world a better place?

Message: Never mad, just competitive. I am sure we will run into each other some time in September maybe in Bellaire. There will be no hand holding or stopping for donuts. I just want to get back to running sub 20:00. Keep up the humorous jabs, I enjoy a good laugh too.

Message: Many of the groups you talk about have ruin the sport of running. Yes, I said the sport of runningMost of the new runners in these groups only know races as charity runs. Races started as events put on by running clubs for the sake of runningwhether you ran fast or slow. Now races are put on to raise some amount of money for a causeMany races are now just charity fund raisers.

Message: Charitable person, let me clarify. I like benefiting a good cause as much as the next guy. The problem in road races is when the charity case causes the quality of the race to suffer. When race directors put more emphasis on the charity than the competition, the event has a way of changing from a race to a fund raising parade.

Message: well for your information almost every race has a charity of some sort that the race is benefiting in the first place. that is why the race is being put on to begin with.
I have never seen the quality of a race suffer because some charity is benefiting from the proceeds. regardless of the number of charity participants, there is always room for the competitors to compete.
i guess i just see both sides and don't feel that one truly effects the other. do your race and let the charity raisers do their thing. both win!
